How to read a KK number
Updated 14 October 2026
The KK number belongs to the family, not to the printed card. If the card is reprinted because a member was added or removed, the number stays. That is why the date inside the number can be earlier than the "Dikeluarkan" (issued) date printed on the card you hold today.
How many digits does a KK number have?
Sixteen, the same length as a NIK. If a form rejects your KK number, count the digits first: a number with more or fewer than 16 digits is usually a typo, or you are reading another number on the card, such as the sheet serial in the top-right corner that starts with "No. K."
Where is the KK number on the card?
On the family card, the number is printed at the top, directly under the words KARTU KELUARGA, prefixed with "No." On the sheet above, it is in the same place. It is not the NIK that appears in the member table: the NIK belongs to each person, the KK number to the family.
Forgot the KK number? How to check it online
No public website shows a KK number from a NIK, and this tool cannot either. What you can do:
- IKD app (Identitas Kependudukan Digital). After activation at a Dukcapil office, your family card data including the number shows on your phone. This is the official online route nationwide; some regional Dukcapil offices also have their own apps.
- Dukcapil WhatsApp or phone. Contact Halo Dukcapil 1500-537 with your NIK and full name as on your ID card.
- Other paperwork. The KK number is often on school enrolment forms, health insurance records, or SIM card registrations you filled in earlier.
- Dukcapil office. If every document is lost, visit in person with your ID card to reprint the family card.
KK number and NIK: the difference
Both are 16 digits with a similar structure, but they do different jobs. The NIK belongs to one person and never changes. The KK number belongs to one family; a member who marries and forms a new household gets a new KK number while their NIK stays. Inside the number, the middle six digits of a NIK are the person's birth date, whereas the middle six digits of a KK number are the date the number was created. On the card, the KK number is at the top; NIKs are in the member table.
What cannot be read from a KK number
- The head of family, members, and address. All of that exists only in the Dukcapil database.
- Authenticity. A correct structure does not mean the number was ever issued.
- Older KK numbers may follow a different format. Numbers created before the SIAK system may not match this pattern.
Need a sample family card?
The sheet above holds only what the KK number stores. For a sample Kartu Keluarga with the head of family, address, and members, for example for a mockup, app testing, or teaching, use the Sample KK page; the number you typed here comes along. That page also explains every KK field in English and what the newer card with a QR code looks like.
Frequently asked questions
How does a KK number differ from a NIK?
The structures are similar: six region digits, six date digits, four serial digits. The difference is that the date in a KK number is when the number was created, not a birth date, and there is no add-40 rule for women.
Does the KK number change when the card is reprinted?
No. The number belongs to the family. The card can be reprinted many times as members change, and the number stays the same.
Can I look up a KK number online with a NIK?
There is no public site for that, including this page. The official route is the IKD app after activation at Dukcapil, or Halo Dukcapil 1500-537 with your NIK and full name. The number is also often on school, health insurance, or SIM card registration forms you filled in before.
Can family members be seen from the KK number?
No. The head of family, members, and address exist only in the Dukcapil database. The number itself does not hold that information, so those fields on the result sheet stay blank. For a sample sheet with names and members, use the Sample KK page.
Is the NIK on the family card the same as on the ID card?
Yes. The NIK column in the member table holds each person's NIK, exactly as on their ID card. Only the KK number at the top of the sheet belongs to the family.
Is the KK number the same as the KKS number?
No. The KKS (Kartu Keluarga Sejahtera) is a government social assistance card with its own number printed on it. The KK number is the 16-digit number at the top of the family card issued by Dukcapil.
Is the KK number I type stored?
No. The reading happens in your browser, and the number is not sent to any server. If you continue to the Sample KK page, the number is carried over in the same tab and deleted right away.
